Sold HTC SmartPhone For Rs. 5000

Yes I sold my HTC p3452 for Rs. 5k Initially I decided to buy HTC because iPhone is too costly in India.

I loved the phone. As always, there were some flaws and I wanted change!

Things I dint like about my HTC phone:
1. Worst battery backup. It dint last even for 12hrs 🙁 With mp3 or WiFi, I could use the phone for 4 to 5 hours max.
2. It was locked to Vodafone! Well, I knew there will be ways to unlock it for other operators. After installing some software, it did work with all operators. But sometimes it needed restart, which again took considerable amount of battery power.
3. Touch screen sensitivity wasn’t satisfactorily built. Messaging was freakingly annoying. The small screen(2.8 inches) of the device made it even more difficult to navigate and to operate the phone.
4. Overall performance of the device was very poor. Slow processing.
5. Couldn’t play mp4 videos (and still this phone is called smart phone!)
6. It had “Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional”, but I wanted android.
7. 2 MP, 1600×1200 pixels: Camera quality Sucks! No HD video recording.
8. (Don’t) Touch Screen: Doesn’t work when operated with fingers. We have to use the stylus ……… and it works when operated with nails!
9. Data cable provided with the device never worked. I had to use my camcorders data cable.
10. You have to use the phone with the original company settings and software. If you make more changes, i.e., try to over customize and start installing more 3rd party software, then the device acts as if it’s dead. It slows down the entire device, hangs, takes time even to restart 🙁

For all these reasons, I wanted a new phone. And it’s smart phone era and there are many smart phones with competitive price tag, especially after the advent of android.

But the device had a sexy look, good pouch, not that bad to use for making and receiving calls: if used with original company settings.

Keeping all these in mind, I offered the phone to one of my friend’s friend for Rs. 5000 and he immediately agreed and bought it. Before purchasing he asked a question: Why are you selling it?
Instead of telling, “I want to buy a new phone”. I told all these above demerits, straight forward. But he was already sold to the sexy design of HTC p3452. He is a average user and his main requirements are calls and style! He can use this phone to make and receive calls, and the phone looks great.

10 Best Alternatives to the iPhone

This is a guest post by James Adams. If you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guidelines here.

Apple took the mobile world by storm with its release of the iPhone two years ago, causing a cult of fans who wanted to get their own sparkling phone. At this point, many other developers have jumped into the craze and, in some cases, even developing phones more worth looking at than the iPhone.

mobile-brands

1. HTC Google Nexus One [$179]
Google and HTC joined forces to bring the Nexus One, which comes complete with a 480×800 touchscreen, a 5 MP camera and the noteworthy Android 2.1 operating system. Available with T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint, this phone has the iPhone beat six ways from Sunday.

2. Palm Pre [$149]
Surprisingly, a Palm device can successfully compete against the iPhone. Features include a 320×480 touchscreen with a slide-down QWERTY board – an effective alternative to the otherwise uncomfortable onscreen board Apple offers. The Palm Web OS-based phone comes available from Sprint.

3. Motorola Droid [$199]
This is another Android 2.1 phone that was built under Google’s supervision, and it comes with possibly one of the largest screens on a mobile phone, measuring at 3.7 inches and a resolution of 480×854. It comes with the ability to recognize 32 GB of SD storage and has an accelerometer built into it, allowing the screen orientation to change. This phone is available through Verizon.

4. Nokia N97 Mini Driver Edition [$479]
A 3.5 inch touchscreen and SD Card support of up to 16 GB have been built into this gem by Nokia, and it has the Symbian operating system. It is available from the Nokia Store.

5. Samsung Omnia II [$199]
This new release comes with the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system installed onto it, proudly displayed across the full 480×800 touchscreen. 6. BlackBerry Bold [$199]
The BlackBerry still holds the reign among capabilities regarding email and instant messaging, complete with a comfortable QWERTY keyboard, the familiar BlackBerry operating system and a BlackBerry-specific app store with many different apps from which to choose. Popular all around the world, the BlackBerry Bold is available through AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.

7. HTC Hero [$299]
Another HTC contender comes the Hero, which has many connectivity options, along with a 5 MP camera. While an iPhone cannot display YouTube videos due to the lack of Flash, the Hero is capable of all of this and much more, directly benefiting from Flash inclusion. The Android-based Hero can be purchased through Alltel, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.

8. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic [$259]
Nokia finally gets the message about slim phones with this new release. Enjoy the new and improved Nokia OS, a 3.2 inch screen and up to 16 GB of external memory. It is available through the Nokia store.

9. New LG Chocolate [$269]
Always renovating the successful phones, LG has come up with their newest version of their popular Chocolate phone. It contains its own LG operating system, has Bluetooth connectivity and is a slide phone. It can be purchased through the LG store or through Verizon.

10. LG Vu [$249]
This phone is a great alternative to the iPhone, especially since it looks just like one. Also containing the LG operating system, the Vu comes with Mobile TV, a 2 MP camera and a large 3-inch responsive touchscreen. This phone can be purchased through the LG store or through AT&T.

Resetting HTC touch 3452 and 3450

Coming straight to the point, here are some simple steps to reset HTC 3452 and 3450 phones.

Procedure:
1. Click on “Start” menu, in the Today screen.
2. Click on Settings.
3. Now you can see 3 tabs on the screen -> “Personal“, “System“, “Connections“.
4. Click on “System” tab.
5. Here you can see many icons like About, Backlight,Clock&Alarms,External GPS, Clear Storage etc.
6. Click on “Clear Storage” icon.
7. Now it will ask for your confirmation. Here is the exact message that is showing on my device right now:

Clear Storage:
Clear storage will make all of your data lost, and reset all settings to manufacturer default.
Do you want to proceed?
Please enter the following word “1234” and press YES button.

8. If you are sure and want to reset the settings, go ahead and enter 1234 and the phone will reset and restart by itself.
9. When the phone restarts, it will ask for the time zone, time, date etc.

Another simple way to reset the phone is..

There is a small reset button inside a small hole(as shown in the above figure, with pink circle), beside the charger point. Use your stylus and press it gently, to soft-reset your device. Device will restart and ask for time zone, time, date etc. And the phone will be restored to manufacturer default settings.

After each reset it will automatically customize the device, so there is really no need to worry about the settings after restoring the mobile. Its a user friendly phone.

All the data would be lost..so be careful.

First Impression about the phone is very good. The best thing is its looks!
Its small and looks sexy. Anybody who go for looks while purchasing pocket PC can look at HTC 3452 once, I am sure you will be impressed.

Previously HTC had released HTC 3450 which is a slower device, so they upgraded RAM and ROM(almost doubled) and called it HTC 3452. If you want any advice to choose between HTC 3452 and 3450, then we recommend HTC 3452(obviously!).

Lock/Unlock ???
Will this phone work with Vodafone or Airtel etc?
I am in India and I am using Spice/Idea and its working great. And I am sure that, the phone will even support Airtel, Vodafone, Aircel etc, in India. No need to struggle to unlock.
If you are staying outside India, then you need to refer your service providers website or contact customer care to know whether their service support the phone. Or you can leave a comment below this article(please specify your country and more details) and someone may answer you soon. I will also try my best to solve your problem.

Good things first!:
1. Very Good looking Design.

2. Good screen clarity.

3. Speed is almost doubled when compared to HTC 2340.

4. Very simple to use. I have used many pocket PCs, but this one is smallest and simplest and still effective.

5. If you are using HTC 3452 or 3450, then please list some of your experiences in the comment section. I am new to HTC and I still need some time to know more about it….

The Down side of the phone is:
1. It does not have a physical keyboard. It has a very good onscreen keyboard, which works amazingly good. But nothing can beat the physical keypads present in my previous phone Nokia 6630.

2. It has a very good speaker which is placed backside of the phone! So, its not so audible when placed on a table with its screen facing upwards.

3. I was not able to sync the device with my computer and after struggling for some hours I could find the culprit as USB cable which came with the phone. Just used the USB cable of my camera and I was able to sync my phone with the computer with in some seconds. [Hope this happened due to some fault in the cable which I have, and may not happen to others].

Small Size HTC 3452 PocketPC
4. Ear Phone and outspeaker sound quality is not upto the mark.
5. Very small..This can be advantage for some and disadvantage for some. But before arguing, you need to first look at its size. Its very small, and sometimes may sound like a problem.

I decided to buy HTC 3452 because iPhone is too costly in India. And HTC has some good reputation and 3452 can impress anybody 🙂
And while choosing a mobile, do not just see for the list of features that the device has, see for the things which you want and need frequently. If you are a blogger you may need some of the features like Word Processor, PDF readers, and some others(these can be obtained by installing some software, but the phone should support it.) This is just an example. But not all individuals have same needs and wants, so look for the features which you want. — Just my 2 cents.

I will write more about HTC 3452 on this blog, on Saturday and Sunday’s. So that my regular readers who are not interested in HTC phones won’t get bugged up. And for people who are interested in HTC phones can read some tips, tricks about using the phone on Sunday or Saturday.
