Different Updates for Classroom Technology

As technology advances, more people now have access to technology than ever before. The invention of smart phone technology has increased the usage of touch screen technology and wireless availability, and technology is constantly being innovated to fulfill a demand for convenient and fast technology. As the Internet takes a more active role in our daily lives, concurrently technology has also taken a large role in managing our lives. Education is one instance where technology has altered teaching styles and learning platforms, which has created a more inclusive environment for all types of learners.

While it may seem difficult to integrate technology into your current curriculum, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Technology is just the catalyst for your lesson plan, but educators should not feel the need to make the technology the focus of the lesson. Overloaded curriculum and amount of material that an educator must cover does not allow room for these types of lessons. Therefore, any technology that is used should be simple, and complimentary to your unique lesson plan. Here are two options to update your classroom by integrating technology into the curriculum.

Interactive Whiteboards
These tools are useful for multimedia lesson plans, since it’s connected to a computer system and will display anything that can be shown on a desktop. interactive whiteboards can be used in place of whiteboards and flip charts, so even if your lesson only involved a lecture the screen can display PowerPoint. This lesson can be saved for absent students and for future classes.

iPad
Some schools have already started using these for students, including an elementary school in Kentucky. There are grants available, funded by the government and educational organizations, to increase the usage of technology in the classroom and effective learning options. Programs available through Apple allow users to accomplice project, write, access the Internet, and download books through the tablet. While the addition of the iPad to a classroom is an expensive option, there are many avenue to make it an affordable choice. This option would also be helpful for student who are visual learners or need to see the information systematically to retain it.

Technology is one way to engage a youth culture that multitasks with many forms of media at home, and also has a greater understanding of computer technology than the generation before. Using tools that they equate with fun activities will increase there interest, especially since the curriculum will be allowed to diverge from the straight lecture format.

The internet is simply just one huge glob of free information. Learning how to design the atomic bomb used to be privileged know-how. The idea that anybody pays anything more than the few bucks a month for internet service in the pursuit of learning anything is kind of ridiculous when you consider just how much information is accessible simply by getting online and looking. While I can’t tell you the secrets of getting the equivalent of MD certification through the World Wide Web, I can certainly open your mind up to some simple ways to take advantage of all the free stuff out there that can help you in whatever pursuit you may be undertaking.

1. Online Encyclopedias
As demonstrated in the last paragraph, you can’t put a price on sites like Wikipedia. I know you’ve used it to look up the starting lineup for the 1976 Philadelphia Flyers and other novelty knowledge, but put it to use for the bettering of your venture. You can learn the whole history and science behind search engine optimization, direct marketing, or anything else to do with business strategy. But don’t stop there. If you plan on making gains in a specific region or would like to, read up on it! Seriously, anything in your life you aren’t sure about, especially things to do with your livelihood, just search for on Wikipedia. I bet you’ll always find an article on it. Still not satisfied? Scroll down to the article’s citations, which are typically accessible themselves online and branch off into specific facets of what was summarized.

2. Video Sharing
Our global means of reaching each other means we ought to think globally when considering our marketing. The multitudes of language in the world can be a problem. Luckily we have videos, and if you know where to look you can not only find thousands that can assist you in learning anything from cooking to calculus, you can find many that can help you start to understand the fledgling rules of other languages. I’m not saying listening to Futbol announcers talk for a few games in a row is going to heighten your Spanish speaking, but finding interactive content that introduces you to new cultures will often help you become more global without you even trying.

3. Social Media
A no-brainer. Using social networks to expand your market is not only easy it’s almost universally free. Skip the pricey seminars and expensive language learning software. Don’t waste your time spending money for information and entertainment that the Internet gives you for free.

Valuable SEO Guidelines for WordPress Bloggers

This is a guest post by Crystal J. Briscoe. If you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guest post guidelines.

When you think of setting up a WordPress blog it is very important that you follow certain things to get your website to a good ranking with various search engines. There are many factors that you need to focus on in order to improve the search engine ranking of your WordPress site. Here are some of them you need to consider.

Wordpress-SEO

Search engines keep changing their algorithms from time to time in order to prevent spam. Therefore, you need to remain well informed on updates from Google and check fluctuations in site statistics. The title of your post is considered as a most important thing in search engine algorithms. This is the thing that a visitor looks for in any search engine page while conducting a search.

You need to be innovative while creating a title and ensure that it makes sense. The title should include the keyword while clearly explaining what the reader can expect to read in the content. Quality content improves search engine ranking to a great extent. Make sure you do not overuse the keywords in your content as it is an issue with search engines.

Simply rewriting the content from one single source is not considered as rich content by top search engines. It can also be considered as content spinning. They don’t mind if you refer to various sources as long as you include a few more things to add more value to the content. You need to provide the readers with something fresh which they won’t find on other sites.

Once you start publishing superior content on your WordPress blog, you won’t just be able to target prospects but will also see an increase in inbound relevant links. You can provide readers with links to various other quality blogs. Don’t force the links, but let it flow naturally in your content so as to enhance user experience. Linking to superior sites is considered as good sign by search engines.

However, you need to make sure you keep a proper balance between top-quality content and outbound links. By offering valuable information through outbound links, you will not just take your WordPress blog to a higher level but will also gain respect and trust from the reader.

Make sure your pages do not take long to load. This will help you attract more traffic as visitors don’t like browsing pages which waste time in loading. Using WordPress super cache plug-in saves a lot of time as you can store an actual static page. Hence, no time is wasted when anyone requests for a page download.

You also need to focus on niche. Visitors won’t appreciate it if you try to distract them from their topics of interest. If a visitor has to go through a number of links to actually get to what he needs, he would rather start looking for another site for information and loosing even a single visitor makes a difference. It will definitely affect the ranking of your blog.

As and when the search engine algorithms change, you need to make changes in your strategies accordingly so that you do not lose your ranking. To draw significant traffic to your site, you need to have a lot of quality content. SEO optimization is an ongoing process and it might even take around a year before you see good results.

People are covering all different niches in order to attract more and more traffic to their sites. If you do not do constant analysis, things can go wrong within no time. The competition for page rankings is so fierce that you won’t even realize when your WordPress blog will lose the search engine ranking.

7 Mistakes New Bloggers Make and How to Avoid Them

This is a guest post by Lauren Bailey. If you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guest post guidelines.

In some fields, the idea that it’s necessary to learn from your mistakes is a wonderful idea. In education, children learn from their mistakes in a safe environment. In flight simulators, pilots learn from their mistakes while safely planted on the ground. And athletes learn from their mistakes on the practice field in preparation for the big game.

But how can bloggers learn from mistakes without facing the consequences? Unfortunately, there’s really no way to make a mistake on a blog and have it go unnoticed. And in this competitive and fast-paced environment, a mistake can seriously hurt your traffic numbers, advertising revenue, and search engine results standings.

Instead of learning from our own mistakes, we can learn from the mistakes other beginning bloggers have made. Hopefully, this list can be extremely helpful to you; however, if you have made a mistake that’s not on this list, please share it with us! We could all learn from it.

blogging-mistakes-answered

1. Plagiarize Or Duplicate Your Content!
Whether they realize it or not, some bloggers plagiarize content. Maybe they don’t mean to cause any harm, but technically this is stealing other people’s work. Other bloggers do steal content on purpose in order to boost traffic!

In any case, it’s a good rule of thumb that if you do blog about someone else’s content or include portions of that content, then you should attribute that source and link back to the other person’s blog.

2. Forget About SEO
One of the basics of good blogging is to know about Search Engine Optimization strategies. New bloggers don’t often know about these, so they won’t include keywords or meta tags in their posts. They don’t realize the importance of backlinks. Then they wonder why they don’t get any traffic.

Avoid this mistake by looking up SEO strategies. Read about what SEO really means. Read Google’s official blog to understand how they manage search engine results and algorithms.

3. Write ‘All Over The Place’
Have you ever read posts by a blogger who can’t seem to make up his or her mind as to what to write about? The new blogger writes about his pets, the latest baseball score, some two-year old internet meme involving cats, and the occasional gadget. How frustrating was it to read? Very frustrating, I bet. This is a common mistake new bloggers make: they can’t seem to focus on a specific topic, and because of this, they’re writing is ‘all over the place.’

Avoid this mistake by knowing exactly what topics you’re going to cover in your blog and follow through on this commitment so that you’re readers know what to expect when they visit your blog.

4. Blog Once Every Blue Moon
Of course, new bloggers also get frustrated with how much work it takes to blog successfully. Because of this, they forget to blog. They get involved in other things. They blog once in a blue moon.

Avoid this mistake by following a regular blogging schedule. Even if you get blocked, you have to force yourself to blog every day. Blogging takes discipline.

5. Clutter Their Blog With Ads
These are perhaps some of the most annoying blogs out there. New bloggers think they can immediately monetize their blog, so they put up all these ads that take away from the content. They might see some profit initially, but once their traffic dries up, those profits will too.

Be careful in the kinds of ads you use and how you place them. The best blogs incorporate ads right into the template in such a way that they are not intrusive, but still manage to get good clicks.

6. Let Spam Dominate The Comments
New bloggers often don’t understand the concept of spam comments; I can’t count how many times I’ve seen a blogger respond to a spam comment! The terrible thing about spam comments is they get in the way of serious discussion. They may make a post appear popular, but really they just scare serious readers away.

Look up a great spam management application. Many blogging platforms have these built in, but you might find a third-party widget that gets the job done well. In any case, make sure you watch your comments section; even the best filters let some spam through.

7. Ignore Their Readers
New bloggers don’t often realize how important it is to use their blog as a way to communicate with others, especially their readers. Readers read blogs in order to get information and make connections with other bloggers. Sometimes new bloggers overlook this fact; they don’t realize that the blogging community is made up of all sorts of interesting people with whom they should interact.

Don’ t make this mistake! Respond to emails and comments. If you’d like, accept guest posts. Do everything you can to cultivate relationships with your readers! The connections you make will pay off, believe me.

10 Ways to Effectively Run Your Business Outside the Office

In today’s mobile society, it’s not uncommon for business owners and professionals to travel extensively. While away from the office, however, it’s still necessary to keep business processes flowing smoothly. There are many ways you can effectively run your business when you travel.

mobile-phone-office-travel

1. Make the most of your mobile devices and applications. Not only is wireless network adapters handy, but when coupled with a wireless hotspot, they allow you to connect to the Internet virtually anywhere. These can be used with your mobile phone, iPod, laptop and more to keep you connected.

2. Use your digital camera to share photos that will help clarify instructions to support staff and co-workers. This is an ideal way to verify model numbers, give a clear example of a broken part, and send needed data to the home office and more.

3. Track deliveries and packages while away from the office via the Internet. By knowing your tracking number, you can easily access delivery information online and reassure a customer regarding an order, or verify a shipment’s proposed arrival time before calling the vendor to inquire.

4. Hire a virtual assistant to handle some of the routine tasks you need to do every day. This could include answering email, publishing a company newsletter, placing supply orders and more. The costs are reasonable and the assistance can be invaluable.

5. Take advantage of sites like Google Docs or DropBox to share files and documents, or store them for easy access wherever you are.

6. Use an online or iPhone app like RightSignature that allows you to digitally sign documents via your cell phone or Internet connection. This eliminates the need for faxing or printing and speeds up the process as well.

7. Set up QR Codes, two-dimensional codes that allow someone to use a QR scanner app to access additional information you supply. This is ideal when you want to provide additional product data, discount codes or even more detailed contact information.

8. Offer online versions of your product catalogs and brochures so customers can access the information without you needing to carry a briefcase full of printed materials.

9. Use your iPad or laptop for sales presentations. You can even provide the information on a CD or via email if your customer is computer savvy enough to access the information easily. This eliminates the need for carrying printed materials and lessens the chance of them being damaged by a spill or other mishap.

10. Use an online backup service such as iDrive to keep a backup of all your files and documents online. If needed, you can access the online version via Restore and know that you’ll always have the information you need on hand.

These are only a few of the many ways you can manage your business while traveling. Make use of those that work well for you and eliminate some of the stress associated with being away from the office when there is work to be done and projects to oversee.

How to Tether Your 3G Phone to Your iPad 2

This is a guest post by Kelly Austin. If you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guest post guidelines.

The iPad 2 is a great improvement over the original iPad in many ways, yet the additional cost of integrated 3G connectivity is not a premium many want to pay – especially when they are already paying for that same service on their smartphones. Luckily, there are workarounds and it is possible to tether your iPad 2 to your 3G (or 4G) capable phone. Keep reading to find out how.

Depending on your phone’s operating system, you will have to use a different workaround. Listed below are the tested and working methods for various phone operating systems. If your phone’s OS is not listed, it may not (yet) be possible for you to tether to your iPad.

ipadtether

Nokia N Series: If you own an N series phone from Nokia running on the Symbian platform, you will need to download the Joiku Hotspot application (found at: http://www.joikushop.com). Once downloaded and installed on your phone, simply launch the application and follow the on-screen instructions to create a wireless hot spot. From here, you simply connect to it with your iPad as you would any other mobile wifi hotspot and you are free to roam the internet!

Android OS: For any Android based phone such as the HTC Hero, you will need to download the Android WiFi Tether application (found at: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/). Download and install the application to your phone (note: your phone needs to be rooted in order for this method to work). Launch the application and follow the on-screen instructions to setup either a mobile hotspot or tether via bluetooth to your iPad. Again, connecting to the hotspot is the same as connecting to any wireless network. Note: For newer Android based phones such as the Evo 4G there is no need to download any 3rd party applications as the wireless hotspot feature comes pre-installed on the device.

Windows Mobile: For devices using the Windows Mobile platform, you will need to download the WMWifiRouter application (found at: http://www.wmwifirouter.com/). Download and install the application on your device and launch it once installed. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up a portable hotspot from your device and connect to it with your iPad as you would any other wireless network.

iPhone: For iPhone owners, you will need to download the MyWi app (found at: http://www.rockyourphone.com/index.php/mywi.html). (Note: This requires a jail-broken iPhone in order to install and will not work on a stock device). Once downloaded and installed on your iPhone, launch the app and follow the on-screen instructions to create a portable hotspot from your iPhone. This app will also allow you to tether through bluetooth or USB. Once set up, simply connect to the wifi network as you would any other wireless network on your iPad.

With these options, it is possible for almost anyone with a 3G or 4G capable smartphone to tether their iPad 2 and have internet connectivity almost anywhere they go. Please be aware that tethering through your device will incur any data charges stipulated by your carrier according to your contract. Please check with your carrier to clarify any potential charges that may be imposed by the use of tethering before doing so.
