It's been very difficult for other social networking sites to attract Indian users away from Orkut. Coming to the ad placement, it's okay.... it's time to move on. They have a huge user base and so no worries of driving users away. Also, the ads are not irritating to see. I make a guess that the ads are performing quite good. This is possible because Google is collecting data about the user's behaviour. This can allow it to supply ads to the user according to his interests and therefore good CTR. Interesting to know whether majority of these ad earnings go to the Google professional who created it.:) Orkut is great and continues to be so.
