@BBCue, I got 1 year warranty for this machine after investing 81k

I had a assembled PC which cost me 23k and it worked great for me. I wanted something special..so invested my hard earned cash and using the awesome "make your own Dell" set-up my configuration and was excited..and you've probably read the story in above article!

I had issues with my Dell keyboard and within weeks time. I was happy.
But has the same issue with the new keyboard in 6 months again :-(

Now after 1 year, with Inter(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU and Windows 7 OS, my system freezes every time I switch it ON. After 1 restart(the wrong way), it starts working.

I'm not yet concluding that its a fault from Dell. I'm checking it with other OS.

I still love my PC, and I Like the 24'' monitor.

I got the feeling: "Old Is Gold", whenever I see a problem with my new Dell Studio PC.

Online ordering and delivery is easy on this computer. The Studio XPS 8100 is an awesome machine. Got it with twin RAID 0 (2 TB) and the highest 500-series processor so it overclocks. 24" HD monitor, really killer. Got a 2-yr warranty, which was crucial for this computer's shenanigans.

After 18 months, my motherboard was fried with moderate internet, light gaming use?!? Took a week and a half to get someone to install it. After 20 months, my multi-card reader failed. Not sure what's going to be next, but this is my first computer that has had ANY trouble. Previous computers since 1993: Packard Bell, Compaq, E-Machines, Toshiba (Laptop). Each lasted at least 4 years until being rendered obsolete (never a blue screen of death). Hell, I still have my 9-yr-old Toshiba laptop and aside from running a temperature, it works well.

I really like the "make your own Dell" set-up, but I'm moving to a more reliable brand for my next computer. I'm not used to this level of unreliability.

@N.Dash, It cost me a total of Rs. 81,000 when I purchased it a year and a half back. Not sure what it costs now.

But it's easy to know: Just head to dell.co.in and add the things you want, i.e., the configuration. and the online tool will tell you exactly how much to pay. and simultaneously you can even submit your details and the configuration and a representative will call you back immediately.

@Shereen, I don't think advance payment is a big issue.(I maybe wrong)

But what could be a better solution? As a company, if 10 people in every 500 orders don't purchase after assembling the PC, it would be huge lose for the company.

So advance payments makes sure that the customer is actually committed to purchase.

I hate Dell's advance payment system. They must introduce a better way for purchase.

@Navneeth, I just sent the DD nothing else.

You can call the sales manager and inquire. This usually happens due to shortage of some key components.

As I said in above article, my desktop delivery was also delayed due to shortage of keyboard and mouse!
But at the end my main concern was shipping. I was worried that, my huge desktop may get damaged while shipping, but it had an excellent package and thus I forgive the delay!

No matter what, you must call their toll free number and inquire, have your "Service Tag" handy, because they will ask it whenever you call them.
